Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwestern Uganda, famed as one of the last strongholds of the endangered mountain gorilla. Its dense, ancient rainforest shelters roughly half of the world's remaining mountain gorilla population alongside forest elephants, over 350 bird species, and a rich tapestry of primates. Trekking through Bwindi's misty slopes to spend an hour with a habituated gorilla family is widely regarded as one of Africa's most profound wildlife encounters.
